ISU's Brackins turning pro
AMES (AP) — Iowa State junior forward Craig Brackins said Friday that he will skip his final year of eligibility and enter the NBA draft.
Brackins, a 6-foot-10 forward from Palmdale, Calif., averaged 16.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game this season as the Cyclones finished 15-17. Brackins is in the process of hiring an agent and is widely regarded as a potential first-round pick.
Brackins nearly left for the NBA last spring before deciding to return to school, so Friday’s announcement was hardly a surprise. But his final season was a disappointing one for the Cyclones.
Iowa State was expected to compete for an NCAA tournament berth, but injuries and guard Lucca Staiger’s midseason departure contributed to a 4-12 record in the Big 12. The Cyclones ended their season with an 82-75 loss to Texas in the Big 12 tournament on Wednesday.
Brackins, a second-team All-Big 12 pick this season, ranks 12th on Iowa State’s career scoring list with 1,539 points.
